Common Issues

LeakBar doesn't appear in the menu bar

  • Open System Settings and check that LeakBar is allowed to run (Security & Privacy).
  • On first launch, macOS may show a Gatekeeper prompt — click Open.
  • Make sure LeakBar.app is in your Applications folder, not running from the DMG.
  • Re-download the current DMG if you need a fresh installer.
  • Try launching it again from Applications.

Updating LeakBar

  • After installation, LeakBar updates from inside the app. You should not need to keep re-running the DMG for normal updates.
  • If the in-app updater is unavailable, confirm you are running the installed app from Applications.

Permission prompts

  • LeakBar uses standard same-user process access. No special permissions beyond what macOS prompts for automatically are required.
  • If you denied a permission prompt, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security to review.

False positives

LeakBar builds a baseline for each process over time. On first run, scores may be elevated until baselines stabilize (typically after a few hours of normal use). If a specific app is consistently flagged incorrectly, please contact support with the exported report.

Export a Support Bundle

To generate a troubleshooting bundle, run the following in Terminal:

leakbar support-bundle

This writes a timestamped bundle under ~/Library/Application Support/LeakBar/support-bundles/ with redacted config, recent logs, database summary, license status prefix, and system information.

If you only need a scoring snapshot, leakbar export-report exports a JSON report under ~/Library/Application Support/LeakBar/reports/.

Data Location

LeakBar stores all data locally at:

~/Library/Application Support/LeakBar/

To reset LeakBar to defaults, quit the app and delete config.json from that directory. Baseline data and session history will be preserved.
